Carbs in Swiss Chard

By Jennifer Shun  |  Nutrition data source USDA

Let me introduce you to your new green friend. A jewel-tone array of gorgeous color wraps a nutrient-dense leafy vegetable that just might be the powerhouse you are missing from your diet.  High in antioxidants, low in calories, and containing hearty doses of vitamin A, C, K and magnesium, as well as iron, copper, potassium, calcium and vitamin E.  Did I mention Swiss chard is also high in fiber and low in carbohydrates?

Health benefits aside, green leafy vegetables add flavor and punch to your meals. Tender when raw, Swiss chard turns slightly sweet almost resembling spinach when cooked. It works alongside kale in a Winter Greens Salad topped with Blueberries and Pecans, adds an unexpected leafy green to Red Miso Soup, or is a key ingredient in savory, bright Fresh Herb Frittata.
